Foundation
Companhia Insular de Moinhos (CIM) was founded in 1929 by nine baking industrialists in Madeira. The initial objective was cereal milling and flour production. In 1930, a merger with "Blandy Brothers, & Cª" occurred, and the company expanded its production to include crackers and biscuits.
Insular Pasta Society
In 1958, Sociedade Insular de Massas Alimentícias, S.A. (SIMAL) was established. The group diversified its activity by optimizing synergies between its factories. This allowed the company to move closer to the needs of the Madeiran food market.
Start of Modernization
In 1988, the company underwent a profound transformation, changing from a private limited company to a public limited company (S.A.). Between 1991 and 1995, an industrial renovation and modernization operation was implemented. This culminated in the transfer and inauguration of the manufacturing units to the Caniçal Industrial Free Zone (ZFIC). In 1996, port cereal silos were built, and the installation of silos in bakeries began for the transport of bulk flour. In 1999, the Insular Group achieved Quality Certification (APCER) for all its industrial companies.
Geographical Expansion
From 2004 onwards, a process of consolidated expansion began through partnerships and entry into new markets: 2004: Azores, 2005: Germany, 2007: Mainland Portugal and Cape Verde, 2009: Spain , 2013: England, 2015: France, 2021: Jersey Island
Experimental Bakery
In 2010, the Insular Experimental Bakery was inaugurated. The goal was to boost technical training in the field.
Insular - Produtos Alimentares, S.A.
A merger by incorporation of the companies SIM, SIMAL, and DMP into the company Insular - Produtos Alimentares, S.A. took place. This initiated a new phase focused on the modernization and innovation of operations. The restructuring aimed to empower the company to meet the challenges of the food market.
